As a company, we are fully committed to cooperation with technical schools. We organized a Battle of the technical schools at our headquarters in Jabbeke and our site in Herentals.
We are committed to technical education!
Technical education in Flanders has undergone many changes in recent years. As a result, it is no longer easy for schools to comply with the proposed curriculum. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the section 'Working safely at height' was included in the curriculum.
More specifically, students here should learn to work with ladders, rolling scaffolds and aerial platforms. As a school, having all of these materials available is not a given.
For several years we as a company have been committed to constructive cooperation with the surrounding technical schools. Through these channels, we were informed about the adapted curriculum. From the education sector, the question was asked whether we could provide support for the 'Working safely at height' training component. Naturally, we answered this question positively.
The management of Verstraete Enterprises believes in constructive cooperation between education and business.
Battle of the technical schools - Jabbeke
On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, we organized the 'Battle of the technical schools' at the headquarters in Jabbeke. Eight technical schools participated with a total of 143 students.
The students were welcomed with great enthusiasm by the management, after a welcome speech the students were offered breakfast. After feasting, the students started taking theory lessons. The students received theory lessons from our experienced colleagues. They taught them all the tricks of the trade.

After a comprehensive theory lesson, the students were given a comprehensive practical lesson on "Elevator Truck". Under supervision, the students were given the opportunity to operate the elevator truck in a safe and a correct manner.

At the end of this instructive afternoon, the schools competed against each other for the title of "Best technical school. The competition consisted of theory questions, using PPE correctly and entering an elevator truck correctly.
Finally, we were able to award this title to the students of the Atlas Atheneum in Gistel! They won a check worth € 1000 to buy technical equipment. In addition, we treated the entire class to delicious fries!
Training day working at height - Herentals
On Tuesday, October 17, a training day was organized at our Herentals site for students in technical education. We welcomed about 100 students. We organized this day in cooperation with 'RTC Antwerpen'. Wim Rental supported us by providing safety harnesses. This way, everyone could enter the elevator car safely.
RTC Antwerp managed to spoil the students with a delicious breakfast and as icing on the cake, the students were treated to fries at noon!
The students received both theory and practical lessons on making sockets, connecting fixtures and operating an elevator truck.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, we were present at the Technoboost edition in Izegem. This event offered an excellent opportunity to inform young people and their teachers about the possibilities within our company, both in terms of internships and future jobs.
The future belongs to the youth and Technoboost in Torhout was an excellent opportunity for them as well as for our company! It was an opportunity for us to motivate young people for a technical ob.
An employee satisfaction survey was conducted in October 2024 in cooperation with the HR department as part of a training project. The survey was completed by both blue and white collar workers, which provided a balanced picture of the work environment.
On Oct. 17, 2024, the Youca Action Day took place, a wonderful initiative that gives young people the opportunity to spend a day working with a company. The goal is to raise money for projects fighting for a more just society. I was given the unique opportunity to work with my dad for one day at Verstraete Enterprises. I was really looking forward to this.
On Tuesday, October 15, 2024 Light Infra organized a training day for apprentices in Herentals in collaboration with RTC Antwerp for the 2nd time.
In 2024 we again participated in the whale fishing sloop race, this time with two teams. During the exciting open final our teams achieved 5th and 10th place respectively. We are particularly proud of their excellent efforts!
Verstraete Enterprises remains committed to the future at all times. Thus, in September 2023, we started the new construction project in Jabbeke.
